Memories of the Marine Corps (sweepstakes entry.)

What I wrote to https://marines.togetherweserved.com/

Bootcamp in PISC was awesome. Even though the Drill Sergeants seemed ‘mean’ and ‘harsh’ to us once we got there and during training, there was something going in the background that we couldn’t see. In reality, they really cared. I believe that they loved us. They love what they do and were trained excellently to train others. We felt it as we were permitted to go to town days before graduation. They seemed to become more ‘human’ then. The day that we were waiting for the buses to take us home, I believe that I saw some tears from both sides, us and them. When all the other girls went to go get their suitcases I was left behind and it scared me. They asked me to stay and I didn’t and I regret that decision till today. When they kept me behind I thought that they were going to recycle me and it was scary. Everybody else was 17, 18, 19 years old I was the oldest. I was 21, I sang cadence and was a good runner. I also suppose that I had that look at that I still carry today. It took me over 60 years to finally soften my look. 🙂 there is no way that someone can enter the Marine Corps and not keep it in their heart of hearts. I’m 65 years old and I’m still talking about it today and I always will. God bless and thank you for reading whether I win or not.
