A note to our Pressure Canning Friends.

Thank you for calling me this morning about Canning. You know who you are. During our conversation I shared something that I’d like to share with our group. It’s about my conclusion of how Well water can cause chemical reactions in your canner and cause it to pit (small pin holes.) And that can turn out to be dangerous after a time. Our well water has chemicals in it and I have to use our special water spigot with reverse osmosis water in it for canning. I made a mistake a week ago and used regular faucet water in my canner (not thinking-early in the morning) and sure enough, the canner acted like it didn’t want to come to pressure. I knew something was off but didn’t consider that I had put our teakettle (full of regular water as it sat on the stove) into the canner. Sure enough, after I finally was able to put the weight on it and go full timing for my jars inside, I later removed the lid and jars only to see a pinhole in the bottom of my new canner. I JUST bought it about 2 -3 months ago.

PLEASE test your well water or spring water if you have it, for chemicals. You can buy a kit for that for about $5 on Amazon. To be safe I filled Great Value Gallon jugs up with the Reverse Osmosis water. Wish I had thought about them that morning. Smh.
