Recipe for unleavened bread
Torah only requires that it be unleavened. Everything else is optional.
Here is a basic unleavened bread recipe suitable for Passover.
Unleavened Bread for Pesach
Ingredients
2 cups fine wheat flour
½ cup water, added gradually
1 tablespoon olive oil, optional
¼ teaspoon salt, optional
The only required elements are flour and water. Oil and salt are not commanded but may be used if desired.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a bowl, combine flour and salt if using.
Slowly add water while mixing until a firm dough forms.
Add olive oil if using and knead briefly, just until combined.
Do not let the dough rest. Work promptly.
Divide into small portions.
Roll each portion thin, about one eighth inch thick.
Pierce the surface with a fork to prevent puffing.
Place on a baking sheet.
Bake for 3 to 5 minutes per side until lightly browned but not soft in the center.
Remove and cool completely.
This bread should be flat, firm, and free of rise.
Scriptural anchors
Exodus 12 says, “They ate the meat that night, roasted in fire, with unleavened bread.”
Deuteronomy 16 calls it “bread of affliction, for you came out of Mitzrayim in haste.”
The point is haste and purity, not texture perfection. Keep it simple. Keep it obedient. Keep it sincere.
