How to get rid of stink bugs

Short and simple: soapy water.

Quick kill mix

  • 1 quart (4 cups) warm water
  • 1–2 tablespoons dish soap (plain, not antibacterial if you can help it)

Shake in a spray bottle. Spray the stink bugs directly or knock them into a bucket of this mix. The soap breaks their waxy coating and they drown fast. No crushing = no smell trail for their buddies.

A couple backups

  • Rubbing alcohol + water (50/50) in a spray bottle works fast, too—but it’s flammable and can stain finishes. Don’t use on plants or fabrics.
  • White vinegar + water (1:1) + a squirt of dish soap is decent if you’re out of alcohol; not as quick as straight soapy water but still effective.

Clean, then prevent

Wipe the area after with plain water. Seal window/door gaps, and at night, knock any you see into that soapy bucket—old-school but effective.

If you’ve got pets or delicate surfaces, stick to the soapy water option. It’s the least fussy and gets the job done.
