The Lord’s Prayer

Saying the Lord’s prayer shows that we have an attitude of faith in God’s power. And while we are saying it, we are actually properly prioritizing our prayers. Do not start with yourself but start by worshiping God Almighty. Jesus began by hallowing his fathers name. So should we.

While reciting this prayer you are stating that God’s name is holy and he loves that. It reminds you that he is in heaven and looks down upon the people and His creation. It reminds us that he is the creator of the universe and the universe is not a creator by itself.

The Lord’s Prayer

Mat 6:5  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Mat 6:6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Mat 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Mat 6:9  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.

Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Mat 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Mat 6:15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The Lord’s Prayer, also known as Our Father, is a central Christian prayer that Jesus taught his disciples when they asked him how to pray. It appears in two versions in the New Testament of the Bible: a shorter version in the Gospel of Luke (11:2–4) and a longer version in the Gospel of Matthew (6:9–13) as part of the Sermon on the Mount. Some use the longer version from Matthew, possibly because Jesus taught the prayer at different times to different audiences.

1. Mat 6:9. Our Father: Not my Father or Father. This prayer includes all who consider God Almighty their Father.

a. Acknowledging God The prayer begins with “Our Father in heaven”, which acknowledges God’s nearness and transcendence, as well as his holy nature.

b. Entertainers misleading people.

2. Mat 6:9. Which art in Heaven

a. Your God’s location, satan is the ‘god of this world.’ You are showing that you are not talking about him.

b. There is another god in the Bible, the ‘god’ of this world. So think, who do YOU speak of when you pray? All who call on God are not calling on the Creator of the Universe.

3. Mat 6:9.  Hallowed be thy name.

a.. “Hallowed be thy name” means “Thy nature is altogether good and Thou art the author only of perfect good”.

4.  Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

a. You verify the fact that what God said is true, is true whether we can see the results yet or not. His Kingdom WILL arrive and His Will WILL be done.

b. This speaks of submission.

c. Deference (also called submission or passivity) is the condition of submitting to the espoused, legitimate influence of one’s superior or superiors.[1] Deference implies a yielding or submitting to the judgment of a recognized superior, out of respect or reverence.

5.  Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.

a. Human needs, prayer for food.
The prayer asks for basic needs like daily bread, and encourages people to come to God humbly and trust that he will provide.

6. Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, (or trespasses) as we forgive our debtors (trespasses.)

a. Forgiveness, pardon sought.
The prayer asks for forgiveness, and teaches that people should forgive others as they are forgiven.

A pardon is a government decision to allow a person to be relieved of some or all of the legal consequences resulting from a criminal conviction. A pardon may be granted before or after conviction for the crime, depending on the laws of the jurisdiction.[1][2]

Pardons can be granted in many countries when individuals are deemed to have demonstrated that they have  “paid their debt to society”, or are otherwise considered to be deserving of them. In some jurisdictions of some nations, accepting a pardon may implicitly constitute an admission of guilt; the offer is refused in some cases. Cases of wrongful conviction are in recent times more often dealt with by appeal rather than by pardon; however, a pardon is sometimes offered when innocence is undisputed in order to avoid the costs that are associated with a retrial. Pardons are sometimes seen as a mechanism for combating corruption, allowing a particular authority to circumvent a flawed judicial process to free someone who is seen as wrongly convicted. Pardons can also be a source of controversy. In extreme cases, some pardons may be seen as acts of corruption by officials in the form of granting effective immunity as political favors.

7. Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation,

a. Protection. The prayer asks for help not to sin. It’s ok to ask for help.

b. So easily beset us: Heb 12:1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

c. Our Divine deliverer. 972 = 1 sam 22:2, Is. 46:4, Je. 1:8, Dan. 6:27, 2 Co 1:10, Hey 2:15

8.  but deliver us from evil:

a.  and to be delivered from evil. Divine Protection as previously stated.

9.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

a. God’s kingdom
The prayer includes “Thy kingdom come” and “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”, which convey the idea that God’s kingdom would be complete if everyone followed his rules.

10. Amen And it is so, sure enough, some it.

Jesus gave us an example as how to pray. Follow it yes, but you can add words to it and thank Him for all that He has done for you. You can add special requests, etc. Talk to the Lord. (Vs 6.) Shut the door and pray in secret. Directions for praying. Seclusion, secret prayer. God will surely answer you.
