we are not exempt

We are not exempt.

Rev. Esther R. Scott

In John chapter 18 verse 11 it says then said Jesus unto Peter “Put up the sword into the sheath the cup which my father has given me shall I not drink it?”

JESUS tells peter to put away his sword and asks him a question as well. “The cup which my father has given me shall I not drink it?” This is proof that whatever God gives us to fulfill we should fulfill it. The scripture proves that Peter may have had a short temper or was the typical irrational thinker. After all that time of being with JESUS one would think that Peter would know better. It obviously takes some of us longer than others. It depends on your spiritual maturity. We are talking about a man who walked on water to get to Jesus. This scripture also proves that Peter loved Jesus so much and he was so thankful for what Jesus had done for him that he got selfish over him and wasn’t thinking about future generations at that moment. Keep your mind stayed on Jesus and consider how your actions will manifest in the lives of your future generations. Trust in the Lord and you cannot go wrong. Let him handle all of your emotions, burdens, worries, and cares of this life. God is good he doesn’t need our help to take care of himself but we need His help in all situations and matters.

We must remember that although Jesus was God in the flesh he did everything as a man. He wasn’t a show off and he didn’t “toot his own horn” like some mistakingly do today as though to say “look when I can do!” Jesus healed people and turned water into wine as a man whose faith was totally dependent on God. He was our example to show that we can do it as well.

The scripture proves also that although Peter may have thought he was doing a good thing as most of us do, JESUS still had to correct him. Is it possible that some of us think that we have arrived standing far above correction? Also in parental-child relationships these things happen also. Some parents give the children so much leniency that sooner or later the children feel like the grownups and feel that they shouldn’t be corrected. And some neither have that parental respect and/or reverence for their parents after so long. Hebrews 12 verses 6 to 15

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Heb 12:7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Heb 12:8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Heb 12:9  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Heb 12:10  For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
Heb 12:11  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Heb 12:12  Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
Heb 12:13  And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
Heb 12:14  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Heb 12:15  Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Notice in verse eight if you do not want to be chastened, you are considered biblically as bastards and not sons or daughters of God. I would rather take the chastening now and get my pride shut down and have God do it for me later at the judgment and suffer. We must allow God to be God in our lives on this side of the grave because the other side of the grave is too late.

Rev 3:19  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

That is really saying something right there wouldn’t you say? God corrects strong actions through Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost, simply because he loves you. No matter what you’ve done in your life if you except Jesus Christ you are covered by the redeeming blood. We say redeeming because when you redeem something that means that you have to buy back. Do you remember the green S&H stamps years ago that stores used to have? You shop, get some stamps, lick them and place them in a little booklet and when the booklet is full you redeem them. You give them to the store to buy an item like a can opener, a fishing rod or a toaster. This may sound silly to some but, Jesus’s blood is the S&H Green Stamps! You were on the shelf in the store and JESUS showed up with his stamp booklet, and bought you for a price…..the stamps! That is why you hear Christian singing “I owed a debt I could not pay he paid a price I did not know.” He didn’t have to give his life for you but he also didn’t make us just to sit on the devils shelf all throughout this existence either. God wants you to get off of that old shelf and live! Smell the roses, drink the coffee, travel, live, laugh, and love.

In Matthew chapter 16 verse 18 when Jesus said “Upon this rock I will build my church” he didn’t necessarily mean Peter himself. It was the concept that Peter was a prime example of how the Holy Spirit had revealed and still reveals to man, who Jesus really is. You cannot say that he is the son of God unless the Holy Spirit reveals it to you. The ones who do not think that he is the son of God are those who refuse to surrender to the Spirit of God. They are the know it all’s, who have the antichrist spirit about them and some of them don’t even know that their minds have been seared. Beware of those who say that he is ONLY a prophet. That is the spirit of the antichrist. That is what anti-Christ means, against Christ.

Mat 16:13  When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
Mat 16:14  And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
Mat 16:15  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Mat 16:16  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Mat 16:17  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Warning Against Idolatry
1Co 10:1  Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
1Co 10:2  And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
1Co 10:3  And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
1Co 10:4  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Upon this rock I will build my church. God built Israel. As a Christian you are now grafted in. Welcome to the family of Israel. Even many of them today do not believe that Jesus is the Christ and he came out of them. Some are still looking for the return of the Christ. Jesus already returned, saved us, and went back to his throne. He is now on the right hand side of God praying for us making intercession forever. They are still looking to be saved. Not good. This is why we have to get the word out to people. Unsear their minds. Jesus meant that rock to be the foundational principles such as love, chastisement, spiritual discernment, invincibility, authority in Christ, divinity, revelations, and blessings of coming and going. We have so many churches that build themselves on Peter alone and they are cold, powerless and have missed the mark.

Instead of saying “holy Saint Peter we adoer you and we ask the following requests,” they need to be praying, “Holy Jesus my Savior and Lord deposit lovr to me and keep your hand upon me that I do not sin against you. Bless me as I bless you so I can continue to bless others.” JESUS had asked peter who Peter thought that he really was. Peter said, “The Christ, the son of the living God.” Here’s what happened, Peter revealed Jesus and Jesus revealed peter. The pronouncement was important of peters faith in Jesus being the son of God. It is very important that we get that fact. There are many religions out there such as Muslims who believe that Jesus is only a Prophet or a teacher. They adamantly say that he is not the son of God. Mothers and fathers tell your sons and daughters to be careful of joining up with that antichrist spirit. Many have even learned that Muslim faith while they were in prison and so forth, ignorantly not knowing what it entails. Mormons even say that Jesus and Satan their brothers. That’s about as bad as you can get.

JESUS was pleased of Peter’s spiritual maturity. Is he pleased with yours? What has God revealed to you lately? Jesus built his church on spiritual maturity. It is a definite mark of a mature Christian. In John chapter 18 verse 11 retaliation is forbidden as Christians. How many of us still retaliate when someone pushes our buttons? Have you ever said something to to someone and they go home and have time to think about what you said and the next time they see you they’ve cooked up a way to get you back for what you said in all honesty? Just let them talk. That’s in maturity. How many times have you drawn your sword when someone approaches the Jesus in you? Jesus is telling us to put up our swords. The battle is not ours, it’s the Lords. Jesus had to die on the cross because he is chock-full of submission to the Father. God sustained him while he was a man.

The Bible says angels ministered to him while he was here. Between God and the angels, they kept him going down here in this mess of a world. Who or what is keeping you? What fuels you? We are not exempt my friend. If the star of David is made of two triangles, one pointing heaven bound and one pointing earthbound, (some scholars have said that it simply means as above so below,) we are one with the 3rd Heaven, God the Father. If Jesus went through things when he was here we too experience them but this too shall pass. God lives in you. You are his vessel, let him fight all of the battles and fear not. After the last correction that the Lord made in John chapter 18 verse 11, the salvation of the human race began. The band and the captain and the officers of the Jews took JESUS and found him. Notice the order there in John 18 verse 11. First the band left, then the captain of the band, then the officers of the Jews, then Jesus.

The writer was careful to give the order as he wrote the scripture. The scripture tells us exactly how much Jesus and his father are one, just as we should be. Noticing John 18 verse 11b Jesus allows time to question Peter. He didn’t dictate a statement. Like father, like son. Please see Genesis chapter 3 verses nine, 11 and 13. It shows that God is not an accuser, pointing fingers. God asks questions and allows us to answer in and of our own will God doesn’t play the blame game like Adam and woman did in verses 12 and 13b. Satan is a mocker, a mimicker, he doesn’t fit in but he wants to. See verse one. He uses questions also. This could be why we have denominations that say Jesus and Satan are brothers. They see what they call “similarities.” I called them “deceptions.” Please let me leave you with this lasting thought, if Jesus went through it all we will also. Don’t be afraid. Fear not. We are not exempt but Jesus makes it all right. That is why he said, “Come to Me, and I Will Give You Rest

Mat 11:25  At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Mat 11:26  Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Mat 11:27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
Mat 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
