Matthew 5:0-16

Matthew 5

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

More workforce well-being

Provide support for your employees when they face unforeseen medical challenges

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

In verse 1 at the very beginning of this scripture reading, one will find Jesus about His Fathers work, preaching the Kingdom of Heaven to a weary and needy mankind. Jesus was always speaking assurance (insurance if you will) to those who had to suffer for their and the sins of their forefathers even as we do today. During the fall of Man God had a plan. Today, for you the reader, God has a plan in your life. God had plan B set aside for when man and woman would decide to go their own way instead of His. He had it all covered. It was not a surprise to Him when Man and Woman ate the apple that He told them not to eat. Years ago, I had a small paper-back book. It was my favorite book. It was a mystery book and while reading it, the book would allow you to turn to certain pages to see the outcome of the story. You actually made the outcome of the story due to your personal choices. So did Adam and Woman. Her name was “Woman” because her name wasn’t “Eve” until after the fall.

Scripture says that when Jesus saw the multitudes of people following Him, He knew that He would need to go to a mountaintop in order to be heard by them all. That is a lot of people. The truth attracts people. Lies only deceive. Notice the difference between Jesus’ style of speaking to the masses and the Roman and some present, physical styles of speaking. While Romans went to a pit in coliseums Jesus went to mountaintops. While man depends on acoustics, Jesus knew that His Spirit would help Him and carry HIs voice to the ears of the listeners. He hadn’t passed from one life to the other yet so the Spirit was waiting-in-the-wings to assist. God’s Spirit is like the wind. No one ever knows where it will be whether North, South, East nor West. We just have to connect with Him and allow Him to fill us with His dunamis power. With God all things are possible.

John 3:5-8

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

We are just like Him when we are saved and made new. No one should be able to say that we are predictable. We are supercharged by God’s Spirit and whatever He tells us to do, we do it. A very mean-spirited man sat back in a church one day and watched the entire service telling his friend, “I’ll never go up for that junk. When that preacher does a head- stand then I’ll know it’s the Lord.” Then he laughed. The preacher began the Call to Salvation as the choir sang gently in the background. Just then, a strange thing happened, the preacher said in the microphone, “You folks may think this is crazy but the Lord is telling me to do something very odd.” Then he stepped away from the podium and literally did a head-stand. The congregation was shocked, mouths opened wide and you could hear some giggle. The mean-spirited man in the back was literally in shock! Tears began to stream down his face because he knew it was God. He went up and got saved. He gave his life to the Lord. He honored his word by being obedient to the Spirit. God doesn’t have to prove Himself to anyone but obviously there was a purpose there. I am sure that He didn’t have to blind Saul on the Road to Damascus either but sometimes we are so self-will driven and mean-spirited (as the man was) that God can’t use us. Not ‘can’t’ but ‘won’t’. The bible says that God resists the proud. Stay humble my friend.

While our Lord Jesus stood on that mountaintop, He began to speak. What He was about to say to everyone was so important to their well-being that He needed for every word to ‘fall upon’ the ears of the listeners. One thing that I loved about Jesus was the fact that He taught those who mostly came to Him. There were some like the woman at the well and the man by the pool, but mostly He taught those who came to Him or followed Him. He didn’t waste time on frivolities or jokes. He wasn’t an entertainer, He was on a mission. Let’s not make Him mean and too serious either but He didn’t “put on a show” to get the Word across. The Word doesn’t need any of our help. God did it good, and it’s good all by Itself, or rather I should say, “Himself” because Jesus IS the Word. God said, “Open your mouth” not “Tap Dance and show jazz hands. We are only to minister while Jesus is the main course. Jesus is Prophecy not cars, laptops, wide screen T.V.’s or mansions. (Please see Revelations 19:10).

When you went to the mountaintop you heard wisdom and instruction. When someone refuses to hear good instruction, wipe the dust from your feet and move on, keeping them in prayer. The Spirit of God is a Gentleman, He doesn’t force Himself on anyone.

Luke 10:10-11

10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

Even today when we have our mountaintop experiences the Comforter teaches us. Jesus sent Him by the blowing of His precious breath upon the Apostles and He’s been here ever since. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” If one doesn’t feel Jesus in their lives it is because they’ve refused His Comforter, the Holy Ghost. Ask and it shall be given. A = Ask. S = Seek. K = Knock. Did you Ask, Seek, and Knock? God still teaches us the Principles of the Kingdom if we’d only go to Him and listen. Be still and allow Him to speak to your heart. His voice is not always the audible voice in your ear but that loving voice that speaks to your heart. It is very prevalent and you will know when your heart ‘hears’ it.

Jesus opened His mouth and gave what I like to call His “State of the Union” address. First He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” We have to ask ourselves who the poor in spirit are. Notice the small ’s’. If it were a large “S” it would imply the Spirit of God Himself. When you see the small ’s’ it implies the portion of God’s Spirit that we have within us. It is up to us how large He will grow within us according to our studying. That’s that Mustard Seed faith.

2 Timothy 2:15

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Some people are so battered down with spiritual battles that it is hard for them to bounce back up. They are those who need ministered to the most. We all have various degrees of spirituality within us. What some Christians can do in their lives would be a rock of offense to others. Some can listen to jazz once in a while and still love the Lord with all their heart, yet some may backslide into the world over it and lose their salvation. We are told to be holy and an example as well and to be alert as to what goes through our ear gates and eye gates. Be cautious and careful. The devil is slick. Then there are are those who still use wine for communion and yet there are some who would become an alcoholic by it. There will be disagreements about that until the Lord Himself explains it all to us on that Great and Glorious Day.

Romans 14:19-22

19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

Verse 22 is telling us that whatever you do is between you and God. Don’t flaunt it as though that certain level that you are on is where every Christian should be. Everything is not to be told. Keep some things to yourself. I’ve had God bless me with things and when I told it to others, they condemned me for it because of how I got that thing or what I had to do to get it. (Not meaning sinful means of course.) And some people are just downright jealous. Some of you may even be called into the ministry but you are afraid of how others may think about you or what they may say. It’s between you and God! Half of them won’t like it anyway. Minister-on my friend. Answer that call. (Galatians 2:28-29)

Being poor in spirit is a person who is very humble. They are very appreciative, caring, appreciative, and grateful of all that come their way. Old sneakers are good enough for them as long as their feet are covered. They are easy to please. You don’t have to buy them a pair of Michael Jordans in order to bless them. They feel good about themselves and are happy just to be alive. In fact, “Blessed” means “Happy”. They are contrite and remorseful for their sins and not deceitful and cunning. They know that all is God’s and God sees all. They may need a refreshening once in a while when they get low or when they get picked on but God re-energizes them and the Love keeps coming through.

Jesus goes on to say “Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted.” He knew and was assuring us that in our lifetime we will have occasions to mourn. To everything there is a season. Ecclesiastes 3. God sends His Holy Spirit to comfort you and then you heal and become a happier person knowing that your loved one is okay and God is still sitting high looking low. For years we’ve heard the ridicule about people “putting their loved ones in Heaven yet they were such devils in life.” I do believe the Word says, “to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord.” Devil or Saint, your spirit goes back the Original breath that created it. And then, your soul gets judged. I do not believe that people are saying that their souls are now in Heaven but the life of the person surely goes back to it’s Creator. Adam was born a soul and after God breathed into him, he became a “living” soul. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away and that’s not just an old-timers sentence, it’s truth. There are repetitive scriptures that tell us that the dead are in a deep sleep until that final judgment. Ecclesiastes 9:5 says the dead know nothing neither they any more reward for the memory of them is forgotten. Year after year, your heavy mourning should somewhat cease. it is unhealthy if it continues to the point of not being able to live your own life as your loved one would have wanted you to. They want you at peace. They already have theirs.

“Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth.” Meekness and humility are closely related. A meek person is far from a nervous blabbermouth. (Pardon my colloquialism.) They are deficient of courage, moderate, modest. They are characterized by long-suffering. Yes, they are the ones who cannot pay all of their bills and always seem to need a ride to church. They suffer long for things that others seem to get so easily. Their credit may be below 500 and they walk down the road with bags in their hands depending upon whether or not your heart has enough grace in it to pick them up or to finally acknowledge them. These are the ones who will inherit the Earth and will maybe one day give you a ride or two.

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.” Jesus is telling us that everybody isn’t attracted to sin, so we can’t use that as an excuse. We can’t say, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” My question to you is, “Who are you following?” Is your leader thirsting after righteousness or money, fortune and fame? Many have fallen chasing the Almighty Dollar Bill. The righteously hungry have a spiritual desire to learn as much about God as they can. They will go back to the homeland, Israel, to learn more from the wise if need be. They want to make sure of what each word in the Word means and will search high and low for the correct meaning. They have no time for the silly attractions of the World and Satan’s wiles are completely powerless over them. Their discernment is highly charged. Most likely they are spiritually mature and have been through fire and back. Nothing by any means can hurt them now because nothing but the Kingdom of God interests them. This speaks about spiritual fullness. They lay their hands on themselves and are healed. There is absolutely no room for doubt and when they feel it coming in their minds they rebuke it because it is unattractive and meaningless to them.

“Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.” Mercy is not receiving something that you do deserve. You’ve been forgiven. (As in a Judges mercy in court.) If Jesus forgave the thief on the Cross when He died the worst death in history, who are we not to forgive? Who do we think that we are to hold something against someone with as many mistakes as we make? Jesus never gave in to highfalutin’, snob-nosed, white-washed wannabes. They always wanted to stone someone with their sinning selves.

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” Just as the Goldsmith stirs the gold and the Silversmith stirs the silver, your Father in Heaven will stir you and remove the dross and make you shiny and clean. God walks on the purest gold. It’s His concrete, His sidewalk, His field and meadow. He doesn’t want cheap gold around Him that’s been tainted by man. He wants pure hearts which means that the old man in us has been killed off and we are now new in Christ Jesus, God’s Son, His First Born. Before you were in your mother’s womb, your heart was pure because you were with God, formed by His hands. God made a man out of the dirt of the earth and put a piece of Himself into the little man/woman. That’s you! The transaction is made manifest just by God’s ‘giving’. “Let us make man in OUR image.” Body/Jesus, Spirit/Holy Ghost, and Soul/The Father. I always say that you are a Soul with a Body not a Body with a Soul. You are life, ions and protons, atoms and forceful energy. Are you positively using what God gave you? I pray that you are. Get out and live and breath. Be bold, be strong for the Lord your God is with you.

When you were born, due to sin, you inherited your parents’ sin nature. Jesus came to rid you of that sin and wash you whiter than snow. That was His purpose. God sat back to see just how much you would want to turn your back on this sin-nature. (Free-will living.) Some do not believe in free-will but my God is not a Dictator, He is a loving, gentle and kind God. If He were a Dictator what would be Jesus’ purpose of even coming down to die on that Cross? That would not speak very well of our Father if He sent Jesus down just for a “show” for us. Jesus is not entertainment, He had a purpose…..He loves us too much to watch an enemy run rough shod over us. We are Victors in Christ Jesus.

“Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called the Children of God.” Jesus is the King of Peace. One of God’s names is Jehovah Shalom. Shalom in Hebrew means Peace. Are you a Hell-raiser in your household or family? Are you proud to be hot-headed? Do you say, “I’m Italian, I’m Indian, I’m Nigerian, I’m Southern! I’m Irish! It’s in my blood!” You are wrong my friend. It’s time to repent of that thinking. First of all, it’s non-sensical and secondly it’s prejudiced. Speaking like that means that you are bigoted against your own culture. It’s not funny. Selah. (Think about it.) In order to be happy and blessed one must keep the peace. Jehovah Shalom! Let His Peace be within you. Strife is forbidden in the Kingdom.

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” This entails suffering for Christ. In this life you will be harassed for being a Christian. It is going on now all over the World. Sometimes it seems that our own Nation is beginning to second-guess Christianity and give non-believers their way against us and what we believe. We were built on Christianity. It’s getting harder Loved One. Let us all pray daily. There is a picture going around on the internet that says, “You take the bible out of schools but distribute them in prison?” It is never too late to read or hear the Word but isn’t that somewhat ironic? Satan wants to weaken your faith so he stifles you and ridicules you in hopes that you will stop serving Christ and break God’s heart. That’s the secret. he wants you to stop serving God. And yes, he will use your loved ones to hurt you as well. Stay sanctified by the Holy Ghost and glorify God. Don’t ‘get back’ at people when they do your wrong. The Word says plainly, “What goes around comes around.” If they don’t stop acting like the devil against you they will receive a devils reward. (Please see: Colossians 3:25 and Psalm 94:23, and 2 Timothy 4:14.)

You will experience some sacrificial suffering for no one is exempt from suffering. If you don’t suffer in some way, the devil has them already. If Christ suffered, so shall we. There are people right now in other countries getting beheaded and killed because of their belief in Jesus. I know, they write, text or call me every single day for prayer. Every time that I log on to my Facebook account someone needs prayer badly about something and it’s usually more than a gas bill or a rent. When I log on, I am praying sometimes for 5-6 people at a time on Messenger and answering emails consecutively. Some are students of our Bible Institute and we teach villages in various nations about the Word of God. They are getting burned, stabbed, raped, and chased by non-believers. Muslims are burning down Pastors houses and churches and killing Christians. All of them aren’t bad. You can’t judge an entire race or religion on just the bad guys. The good ones don’t know what the bad ones are up to sometimes. Just a couple of years ago, the leader of Egypt, Muhammed Morsi was hanging naked Christians and news reporters who were believers, in front of his palace in Egypt so that he can watch them die. God took him out of leadership too. He ended up running from his own country. I’ve been trying to tell people here in America to be careful of saying that they come from a line of Kings and Queens, mostly referring to Egypt. Some are infatuated with Egypt. I knew a lady years ago who used to braid her hair embellishing gold and silver ribbons and she’d strut around saying, “I’m Nefertiti!” …..and she believed it! She believed that she was Nefertiti reincarnated. Isn’t it strange that people are infatuated with those who enslaved God’s people and killed or abused them? I tell them that they may just be from a line of those who were enslaved and run out of Egypt being led by Moses, Miriam and Aaron. You may not have the blood of King Tut or Nefertiti in you but you could have the blood of Moses and Joshua.

God wants us to be bold and stand up for Him. Do it while you can. He said that if we are ashamed of Him He will be also of us in that day. Fear not. Once this dirty rotten World is through we will get our Heavenly Mansions and the lion will lay down with the lamb, there will be no more snake bites nor poisonous spiders. There will be no more gun-shots or rape. And! No more need for hospitals.

“Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for Jesus sake.” Let people talk about you. You cannot stop them. I fault the ones who listen anyway. Don’t be afraid or saddened by it. Haven’t we all said something negative about someone sometime in our lives? Someone’s skirt is too short or their hair is too bright. They are so tall or so short. Or not matter how cute you try to make it sound: “Ouuu! She’s kinda healthy isn’t she?” (Giggle giggle.)

Satan hates Jesus and hates His brothers and sisters too. Yes, Jesus is your Big Brother for we are all adopted INTO the Family through Him. Jesus first, then us. There are minions out there who are being used by the enemy to hurt your feelings. his intentions are to break you down and make you too weak to fight. he doesn’t want you fighting the “good fight of faith.” And yes, you will suffer some reproach. There will be old friends who will back off of you, especially if you are called into ministry because those are the ones who “knew you when”. You will be afflicted and taunted. I had someone at a dinner gathering once ask me about all of my friends, negatively describing what they looked like and the others there laughed at me. It was horrible to watch this person attempt to embarrass me as though they had no problems of their own. My one friend was too fat, the other was too black, the other was too white and pale, they made fun of their teeth and hair, their clothes and how they walked. I knew who was using them and just prayed under my breath. Taunting, teasing and embarrassment is not of God. Jesus said that we will be blessed by this. Can you believe it? God is good. One of the blessings is in knowing that the affliction and persecution is your sign from Heaven that God is pleased with you. One day soon, it will all make sense to you. God will open the spiritual eyes of your heart and show you everything. Patience. Pay no attention to those false accusations and keep doing your Fathers business JUST as Jesus did. He will reward you openly.

And finally, verse 12 says rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven. Check your persecution meter. If the devil already has you, your meter will be near “0”. You are no threat to him. Not good.

The Sermon on the Mount shows us how to proceed toward the Kingdom of Heaven’s realization. It makes a just, peaceful, happy and fortunate world. When Jesus gave His Inaugural Address, a new government manifested, the Kingdom of Heaven. Are you a part?

Verse16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Let your light shine! Amen.
