Mother’s Day 2020!

Mother’s Day 2020 by Rev Essie Scott

“Happy Mother’s Day!” to all of our Mother’s today no matter what age that you are, and may the Lord bless you greatly for being a mother in the natural, by way of adoption, and/or spiritually. Whether you’ve been a great mother, or thought that you haven’t been such a great mother, you are a mother nonetheless and today is a celebration of YOU. And just as Mary was a blessing to our Savior Jesus the Christ, so are you to somebody-somewhere. God bless your offspring and may He bring reconciliation, understanding, reparation, and much love to your family. So grab your pen and writing utensil, a drink and/or a snack and sit back and listen to what the Lord is saying today. I’ll be right back after the song dedication to our Mother’s whether living or those gone on to glory. Amen.

(Song – Mama by Boys to Men.)

Amen. I know and understand that all Mother’s may not be feeling joyful today, or appreciated, and some are lonely, missing their children who left this World too early for a myriad of reasons and you are wondering why God would allow something like that to happen in your life. I have no answers written in stone but one thing that I can tell you is that the Word says that when we die, angels usher us into the next life. Luk 16:22  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Where we go depends on whether or not we received the Lord Jesus. Salvation is not about works of our flesh, we can’t perform our way into Heaven or buy our way in, but it’s whether or not we accepted God’s Son into our lives. God made it easy. Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
And remember, there is another judgement called the Great White Throne Judgement so no one can say who is going to Heaven and who isn’t, only God can. Rev 20:11  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Rev 20:12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
G2041   (Strong)
ἔργον
ergon
er’-gon
From ἔργω ergō (a primary but obsolete word; to work); toil (as an effort or occupation); by implication an act: – DEEDS, doing, labour, work.
Total KJV occurrences: 176
I love how the bible tells us that a woman can save her man by prayer. If she can save her man via prayer, why not her children?
1Co 7:14  For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

G37   (Strong)
ἁγιάζω
hagiazō
hag-ee-ad’-zo
From G40; to make holy, that is, (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate: – hallow, be holy, sanctify.
Total KJV occurrences: 29

We will be taking a look at one of the most preached upon scriptures on Mother’s Day, Proverbs 31, so turn your Swords to Proverbs 31 please. The first 9 verses are chock full of great advice to sons but I am not going to focus so much on a mother-son relationship as I’d like to focus on a Good Woman amen. This chapter is actually a prophesy that a King’s mother taught him. True Leaders will love & respect their mothers. (Skip to Pro 31:10)

Pro 31:1  The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
Pro 31:2  What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
Pro 31:3  Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
Pro 31:4  It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Pro 31:5  Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Pro 31:6  Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
Pro 31:7  Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Pro 31:8  Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
Pro 31:9  Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

The Woman Who Fears the Lord

Pro 31:10  Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

The writer is letting us know that it is not easy nor typical to find a virtuous woman. In looking up the word virtuous, we see that it means a spiritual woman with a warring spirit. One who will take up for her offspring whether right or especially spiritually when they are wrong. One who has wisdom and judges righteously like her Father in Heaven. One who prays. Her spirit dominates and she has the strength of an army. God gave her all of the ammunition that she needs in this life to fight the enemy. She actually shoot towards Hell and not her kids or her man. God has equipped her with all of the ammunition that she needs to carry on with her calling and household.

Pro 31:11  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
H7998   (Strong)
שָׁלָל
shâlâl
shaw-lawl’
From H7997; booty: – prey, spoil.
Total KJV occurrences: 73
A primitive root; to drop or strip; by implication to plunder: – let fall, make self a prey, devoid of purpose, (make a, [take]) spoil, to rob, get robbed or take away. She will not rob her husband nor cause their dwelling to become so weak that they can be robbed. She’s a ‘watchman/woman’ on the wall. A great asset. And…..⤶
Pro 31:12  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Pro 31:13  She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
She is industrious and does well for the family. She doesn’t sit around all day long watching television, ingesting what the world has to say but she makes sure that her household is taken care of and that their clothes are not raggedy, the house is clean, the floors are as well and the food supply is on deck. She doesn’t have to go to the local store to buy her child a blanket because she has to, because if she really wanted to she could make one. She can make homemade rolls, apple pies, churn butter and boil soup bones for a good 4 hour stew. (Personal note:) My mother Hazel Marie Carroll was a seamstress and always made dresses to match me and my Barbie Doll. My Barbie Doll and I always dressed alike. That was fun. Lord bless her soul as she rests until that day in glory.
Right now, think of some fun and awesome things that your mother did when you were a child. Even if you had a tumultuous relationship, something had to go right at least once right? Forgiveness leaves you in a beautiful place. Why shouldn’t we forgive? Someone somewhere had to forgive us right? If we were perfect we wouldn’t need Jesus. I know someone right now who is holding me in bondage in their head and their heart because of an offense of which I didn’t intend to commit and I just say, “Ok Jesus. You go girl!” Right? No one is perfect.
Listen folks, don’t ever allow the root of bitterness and unforgiveness to stop you from living your life in freedom. That stuff will put you in bondage quicker than ice down your back will give you chills.

Pro 31:14  She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She’s not afraid to go out and find her family’s food. She’s not afraid to shop. Men, you want to know why women shop so much….there you go! It’s in our genes, it’s like Prego…it’s in there!

H5503   (Strong)
סָחַר
sâchar
saw-khar’
A primitive root; to travel round (specifically as a pedlar); intensively to palpitate: – go about, merchant (-man), occupy with, pant, trade, traffick.
Total KJV occurrences: 21

H4801   (Strong)
מֶרְחָק
merchâq
mer-khawk’
From H7368; remoteness, that is, (concretely) a distant place; often (adverbially) from afar: –    (a, dwell in, very) far (country, off). See also H1023.
Total KJV occurrences: 18

Pro 31:15  She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
There was a time that women got up early at the 4th watch of day, between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. to start cooking but by the Grace of God, we have Crock Pots now, amen ladies?!?! We get it rollin’ so when the man comes home from work or the fam comes home from church, we can eat! The good woman even feeds her helpers, the gardener, the carpenter, the plumber, the babysitter, the Pastor. I’ve even seen on tv or incidences in real time where, the plumber will come into a good wife’s house and work and after he is done, she hands him a piece of pound cake or a handful of cookies. This is the type of woman who leaves brownies out for the mail person. And when you do that, that person will remember you and always have something nice to say about you. Once in a while, I leave a check out for my mailman and I write at the bottom of it, “Get a cup of coffee and some breakfast.” He always sends me a card back. I love it. I wish to do it more often. When I am home, in my warm house, he’s out there, faithfully delivering ‘junk’ to my house from people that I don’t even know half of the time.

Pro 31:16  She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
This is the woman who buys or plants a yard of fruit trees so her family can eat. Flowers are beautiful but your husband and kids can’t eat flowers. Amen? Well, maybe they could mix some dandelions in their greens but that’s another story. She has apple trees, orange trees, peach trees, olive trees, pear trees, blackberry bushes, elderberry bushes, cherry trees, etc. I think that it is so beautiful to hear people reminisce about their mother’s Sunday pies.

Pro 31:17  She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
A good woman is going to do what she needs to do to guard her loved ones and friends. Much like Jael did in Judges 4-5, she was a strong minded woman who actually permitted Sisera, the leader of their enemies into her tent as he was tired from battle, bleeding, stumbling towards her, needing refuge. She realized who he was and took advantage of the moment, kindly offered him ‘skin’ milk and told him not to be afraid. He asked her for water, she actually gave him the best, goat milk poured into what they called a “skin bottle” which was goat or lamb skins sealed together with the hairy part on the outside which would hold liquids better. People of her times cherished this drink. They’d put goat milk into the skin bottle, shake it and it would curdle, ferment and when mixed with the bacteria inside of the bottle from prior use, they’d drink it. (I’ll pass.) While Sisera was asleep, Jael took a tent peg and a hammer and thrust the peg into his temple until the great general lay there dead, slain by a woman’s hand.
Pro 31:18  She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
Everything that she makes or has is good and useable. If not, she wouldn’t have been able to offer her ‘enemy’ her best before killing him. She was hospitable but yet, not lacking in wisdom. Getting the King or main leader of a tribe, etc., back in that day was a highlight of their days and something to be celebrated. Hence, a male leader, died by a woman’s hand.

Pro 31:19  She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
A distaff is a stick or spindle onto which wool or flax is wound for spinning. Spinning was traditionally done by women.

Pro 31:20  She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
A Virtuous Woman reaches out to the community. She volunteers her time and talent to the needs of others. She knows that her household is taken care of therefore has the time and energy as well to help others not so fortunate which shows us that everyone wasn’t considered a Virtuous woman. In life you will always have your, and please pardon my expression, but your drunks, your junkies, your whores, your fickle-minded, selfish, and silly women.
2Ti 3:6  For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Pro 31:21  She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
H8144   (Strong)
שָׁנִי
shânı̂y
shaw-nee’
Of uncertain derivation; crimson, properly the insect or its color, also stuff dyed with it: – crimson, scarlet (thread).
Total KJV occurrences: 42
Her household has the best clothing. No matter the weather, because of her they are prepared for the worst of weather albeit warm, hot, chilly or freezing, they are prepared. They want not. The Lord is our Shepherd we shall not want. The Lord is our Virtuous Keeper. All knowing, all powerful, Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. We are clothed in scarlet as royalty, we ARE royalty.
G934   (Strong)
βασίλειος
basileios
bas-il’-i-os
From G935; kingly (in nature): – royal.
Total KJV occurrences: 1

Pro 31:22  She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
For she is Royalty. Tapestry is thick and usually purple, red or blue in color but not always. It is definitely something to make you stop and look and respect. Like the Kings and Queens of old, when you saw their clothes, you knew that something about them was special.
I am sure that you are thinking in your mind right now about your mother. Yes, some may have missed the mark a few times in your lives, but I guarantee you that she was trying the best of her ability to take care of you while leaving the hard stuff to the Lord. She did the light weight stuff, (the natural,) and left the heavy weight stuff, (the spiritual,) to the Lord. And a lot of what we thought was the light stuff was most likely mid-weight to her. It’s in our gene pool to do so. We are nurturers and we do whatever we can to take care of our own. Only Jesus didn’t make mistakes. I see in my mind’s eye, mother’s, hustling to the local laundrymat or gas station with Gallon Milk Jugs, filling them up with water, placing them in their cars that are already on ‘e’ or walking blocks or miles back home so their kids can wash or eat and drink. You’d be surprised what people have to do to survive who are still smiling in your face at the local grocery store. They are crying on their pillows at night praying for someone to hand them a twenty $20 or help them get their water and lights back on. This is why Jesus had compassion on people. He knew their struggles and needs. It’s great to give to other countries, you are helping others with a loving hand, but please don’t forget about those who may live next door to you? Donate to that scantily clad, gum-chewing, frazzled haired young lady in your neighborhood who goes around bumming rides to go shopping for her children. She may be YOUR next minister and thank you for helping one day.

Pro 31:23  Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Her husband sits in high places and is known because of his great choice of women and his well-ruled household. She is a blessing to him and they are respected by the elders of the community. Her beauty, inside and out is a treasure to the town and all of it’s committee’s and cliques.

Pro 31:24  She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Good women are creative and well needed in their communities. They are witty and come up with awesome ideas that help other human beings. They just don’t sit around, waisting time, pleasing themselves, sitting by the dock of the bay, watching time wasting away.

Pro 31:25  Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
What goes around, comes around. And that’s not always on a negative tip. Colossians 3:25, Proverbs 26:27, Habakkuk 3:13, 2 Tim 4:14, Deut 32:35, 2 Sam 3:39, Ps 7:16 She will be rewarded for walking the narrow path in life.

Pro 31:26  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches the words that come out of her mouth and uses them correctly. She uses words, she doesn’t let words use her.
Pro 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Pro 31:27  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
1Ti 5:9  Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
1Ti 5:10  Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
1Ti 5:11  But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
1Ti 5:12  Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
1Ti 5:13  And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
1Ti 5:14  I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
1Ti 5:15  For some are already turned aside after Satan.

Pro 31:28  Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Their children do not go around cursing like drunken sailors, making the household name look bad, or smart-mouthing their elders. They are well raised and it shows. They are humble and don’t mind correction. They are trained how to act and how to be not only at home but in the pubic. Aren’t you glad that this is old testament and Jesus came to help us in the New Testament? Now a day, the devil picks on the children of leaders and ministers because he knows that they are the weakest links of the family and it would absolutely break the ministers heart and slow down their ministry. Children are young, inexperienced and mainly, today, raised by the government more than by the parents. Parents today go to jail for correcting their children! And the children take full advantage of that! Doesn’t the Word say that if you spare the rod you will spoil the child? And that’s exactly what happened.

Pro 31:29  Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
A virtuous woman is one to be respected. She has done what needed to be done to rise to the occasion and claim her Royalty, favor, beauty, and blessings. She is respected of all, even of those who don’t respect themselves. She is an example of righteousness, peace and joy. She finds quiet time to talk to her real Husband, her Maker. The Creator of all things.

Pro 31:30  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Our mothers may not wear the latest make up or sport the latest fashions. Her shoes may not even fit her correctly. Her hair may be thinning and her teeth may not be as full as they once were. But I guarantee you that if she had it to do all over again with her children and family, she would. You know why? As I said earlier, it’s in our genes to do so. God made us that way. The first Mother of all living, Eve, taught her children and we do so as well. That is why it was so odd to see Cain go against all that he had been taught and then kill his brother. Rebellion is as witchcraft. We have been taught not to rebel but concur with righteousness. It’s God’s plan. What a beautiful plan it is.
Pro 31:31  Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
The Bible says, “Do not trample the ox that treads out the corn.” As old folks used to say as well, don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Mom took care of you, now you take care of Mom.

Be careful out there too. With all that is happening during this infectious time, it may be wise to face time your mother or have gifts sent to her home instead of going yourself. Or you can drop them off and go back home with her understanding that even a hug can send someone to an early grave these days. Just don’t stop the flow of love that she started when you were conceived. Keep that ball rollin’, amen?

Are you saved?
Now is the time to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. With all that is going on around the world, you need a friend. Jesus can be that special friend if you allow Him into your life. He is your helper and His Holy Spirit is your Comforter.
If you are not saved, just repeat the Romans Road after me: Say “Jesus, I repent of my sins, I am so sorry Lord. I believe that you died on the cross and rose 3 days later from the dead, just for me and I accept what you have done, I accept you as my Savior. Thank you Jesus, amen.” Now go find a bible believing, Holy Ghost filled church and learn of Him, it’s never too late. Your new life starts now. All old things are gone away. God throws them as far as the East if from the West. Now….go live, laugh and love!
Thank you for coming on today and I pray that your week goes by Victoriously!
Thanks for listening, God bless and stand the test. To God be the Glory for the things He has done.
