St. Matthew 8:5-17
Mat 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
Mat 8:6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
Mat 8:7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
Mat 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
Mat 8:9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
Mat 8:10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Mat 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 8:13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Jesus Heals Many
Mat 8:14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
Mat 8:15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
Mat 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
Mat 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Humans. We use so many words don’t we? Have you ever thought about how much you talk during the day? Especially those who are very active or are around people much of the day, maybe in the office, church, work, store, customer services of some kind. Think about all of those words that come out of your mouth. If you were to measure your positive ‘word-use’ in inches, yards, feet or miles, how many would you have? How many inches of negativity would you measure? What city could some people have traveled to with that much negativity? Some people could actually travel to countries with all of the words that come out of their mouths. How many of your words can be considered as encouraging, uplifting, healing, and edifying to others besides yourself?
That’s what Jesus did. He was constantly encouraging, edifying and uplifting those who were in need and yet, he also gave correction when needed. His Power was realized when He spoke the Word. Ours is realized when we speak the Word as well. Instead of getting so bogged down with all that is going on around the Word today with this #coronavirus, we should be speaking in prayer or tongues for mankind and all the while rebuking the virus. I see that many have begun to speak that thing down just like we did the Hurricane’s and Tornados a while ago. Put that virus in it’s place like Jesus did in so many examples in the Bible.
Here we have in Matthew 7, a Centurion who came to Jesus (beseeching Him) to ask him to heal his servant who was laying at home sick of palsy and grievously tormented. In other words, this man was in a horrible physical situation. Palsy is a paralysis, especially that which is accompanied by involuntary tremors. That is a serious situation, especially for a servant of a centurion whom, I am sure, needed his services. He even told Jesus in verse 9 that he (the Centurion) was a man under authority, having soldiers under him and when he told someone to move, they moved! He was no joke. He said that when he told someone to do something, they got it done. We don’t know what the, “or else” would have been. He must’ve had heart, and was different than the rest. He had to be a believer because instead of killing his servant or leaving him like the Egyptian servant of the Amalekites in 1 Samuel 30:13 (who actually ended up helping Israel because Israel saved and helped him,) this Centurion beseeched Jesus for help. The Centurion’s servant was blessed to have such a leader over him like that. I pray that you all out there have leaders that are caring because they are hard to find.
Centurions usually were great leaders, leading many soldiers. They were the principal professional officer in the armies of ancient Rome and its empire. The centurion was the commander of a centuria, (about 100 men,) which was the smallest unit of a Roman legion. A legion was normally composed of 6,000 soldiers, and each legion was divided up into 10 cohorts, with each cohort containing 6 centuria. The centurion thus nominally commanded about 100 men, and there were 60 centurions in a legion. The centurions in a legion were arranged in a complicated order of rank, with variations in authority and responsibility from top to bottom. The last thing that this company needed was to experience a weak link in their legion. Rome was fierce in their battles and the centurions were to make sure that it stayed that way.
“…but speak the Word”……
In Matthew 8:8 the centurion, after beseeching Jesus tells Him, “…but speak the word only and my servant shall be healed.” That required true faith. He knew something. He had most likely heard or been watching the Lord doing His Father’s work. Jesus had a name for Himself, especially with various leadership. He was a threat to many. He still is today. Just as they watched Him over 2000 years ago, they still watch Him today, through us. We are the carriers of His other third (⅓rd), The Holy Spirit and we are supposed to be doing greater exploits than He did while He was here in the flesh. The World is watching us ladies and gentlemen. Especially during this time when there is a weakness running rampant among mankind. “Let’s see if they pray now” they say. “Are they gathering together like they claim to do?” the world says. satan says, “Corona! Kill them off before God even has a chance to put their tears in a bottle.” “Stop them from gathering and let’s see if miracles still take place.” Wow….”stop…them…from…gathering”….
I believe that Jesus, our Big Brother and Savior put this in the bible for us and purposely had me search this out for study on Saturday to let us know that everything is going to be alright. He is telling us not to fear. He was our example. He says to us today, “Just speak the Word.” Quote Him. Quote scripture. Learn it. Get used to it. The Holy Spirit of God will help you. He is waiting for you to call upon him as He said in Jeremiah 33:3. “Call upon me.” Sure, this is a time when our #Faith is being challenged. But we also have to use wisdom. And this may be where I may lose some listeners on Blog Talk Radio or readers on revessie.com so please hang in there with me.
The Bible tells us to obey magistrates (leadership.) This means that we don’t cuss out our Presidents, have coven meetings wishing ill-will over him, (and Leadership around the world), while they are scrambling to make a safe living for us. That is rebellion. 1Sa 15:23 “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee”… If they are wrong, God is still in control is He not? He will correct them. What we need to be doing is praying either singly or corporately. You can’t serve a God that you don’t talk to.
Tit 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Tit 3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
Tit 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Tit 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
2Ki 20:13 And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, (his enemies, – PRIDE steps in,) and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
2Ki 20:14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.
2Ki 20:15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
2Ki 20:16 And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.
2Ki 20:17 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
➢ How’s your speech?Pro 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
➸ What are you speaking? Are you casting out devils, infirmities, paralysis? Are you soothing troubled minds around you? We are creators like our Father Creator. What we say comes to life. We speak life or death. Are you casting down evil imaginations that the enemy of your soul sends to you on a daily basis? Or are you accepting what the devil has to say as truth? he lied to Eve and he’ll lie to you too. Who does God say that you are? His! A Healer! Righteousness! The Kings Kid! He’s not going to beg. It’s high time for us to accept that we are Royalty and get it over and done with and walk ye therefore in it.
Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
➳ The Word is Jesus on paper. God is not a man that He should lie. When the bible tells us that, it is telling the truth. Truth reigns.
Rev 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Are you saved? Now is the time to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. With all that is going on around the world, you need a friend. Jesus can be that special friend if you allow Him into your life. He is your helper and His Holy Spirit is your Comforter.
If you are not saved, just repeat the Romans Road after me: Say “Jesus, I repent of my sins, I am so sorry Lord. I believe that you died on the cross and rose 3 days later from the dead, just for me and I accept what you have done, I accept you as my Savior. Thank you Jesus, amen.” Now go find a bible believing, Holy Ghost filled church and learn of Him, it’s never too late. Your new life starts now. All old things are gone away. God throws them as far as the East if from the West. Now….go live, laugh and love!
Thank you for coming on today and I pray that your week goes by Victoriously!
