A letter about smoking…the answer
Posted on March 11, 2011 by Rev. Esther R. Scott
Dear (name omitted),
Mat 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
You can and will stop smoking. God doesn’t take away anything that we like. We must first hate the sin and then He will remove it. I stopped smoking 2 packs of Marlboro’s a day in 1997. I noticed that for the last year of my smoking, I was hanging out of the window so that my kids couldn’t smell the smoke. I was sitting on the porch in -7 degree weather as well. I was doing odd things just to smoke. I guess that you can say that I began to consider the people around me. I began to hate the smell, the brown fingertips, the stinch in my home, the brown “juice” that would run down my walls when I spray-cleaned my blinds.
One day I got up and lit my cigarette to smoke with a nice cup of coffee, (you know that cigs and liquid go together so well), and when I tasted the cigarette….it was nasty! I thought that maybe I had a cold or something that was changing the taste of the Marlboro cigarette. About a half hour later or so, I lit it again…it was horrible! It was like a dream to me but I can still remember it well. Something went through my mind and said, “Can’t you see that God has delivered you from smoking?”
I had to step back and contemplate. I was delivered! I looked at the cigarette and no longer wanted it. I looked at my beautiful leather pack holder and was a little sad because I knew I’d never use it again. I threw them away and haven’t touched a cigarette since 8Feb97.
I began to clean my house after that, spraying those yellow, stinking walls
and scrubbing floor and spraying the mini blinds. I washed clothes and cupboards. My house was like new in about 2 weeks!
Secret: A good friend of mine who was an elderly person, prayed with me for about a year before this happened. As we prayed, my lust for deceitfully destroying my body waned. I will never forget it.
God is good.
