Heavenly Memo: "I will NOT let you go!"

Jacob, the cheater, deceiver, liar, thief of future promises and birth rights. This man and his mother concocted a way to cheat his brother Esau out of his birthright. Have you ever felt that one of your siblings stole some of your birthrights somehow but you just couldn’t put your finger on it? It happens. God put everything in the bible as an example to us for when the situations should arise. Esau was hairy, manly and worked in the fields. Jacob, the youngest son was a mama’s boy. One day when Isaac was old, he sent Esau out to the fields to get venison (meat) that he may make a savory stew and then he would bless Esau as the Hebrews did with their children and still do, we should too. His crafty, slick, sneaky, child-favoriting wife happened to overhear it and told her youngest son. This action makes one wonder why. Jacob was an opportunist, his mother was an enabler.  See Genesis 27.

Rebekah, whom Isaac had prayed for in his early years, (Genesis 24), goes against one son to help another. The bible doesn’t say that she hated Esau, it just says that she gave his baby brother a “boost” over him. And we wonder where Jacob got his ways. It’s not always “like father like son.” It sounds to me as if this may have been going on much earlier than the “soup” story. She seemed to always be on the watch. Have you ever watched a movie or soap opera and there is always someone standing around the corner listening to others talk? Old folks used to say, “an eavesdropper never hears anything good about himself.” Well in this case she did hear an opportunity.
Favoritism still exists today. Fret not when you see it happen in your own life. All that you really need is favor from God. Man’s favor comes from God so chose God first and let Him do the rest. Don’t work so hard to be favorable in the eyes of man. Just remain humble. Working too hard to be favorable is like Jacob, the supplanter, liar and deceiver, supplanting his way to blessings. You step all over your brothers and sisters trying to get it. I do believe they call that the “crabs-in-a-bucket” syndrome.
Once the father blesses someone, it cannot be taken away. That is the message that we should get from this story in Genesis. What God has for you is for you. No one can take it away. I find it interesting in Genesis Chapter 32 that Jacob wrestles with an angel and causes him to bless him. In Genesis 32:27-30 some say that Jacob wrestled with a pre-incarnate Christ.

Genesis 32:27-30

27  And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

28  And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

29  And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

30  And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

God touched Jacob’s thigh and Jacob began to have a limp. God made his outside unattractive but made his inside more attractive. God not only gave Jacob a new physical attribute but a new heart. Do you find that this has happened to you as well? When most of us were in the world, we were young and attractive with a head full of hair with barely a bad condition of any kind. Isn’t it funny how some people only come to the Lord when they get a bad report from the doctor or after they are bald, sick or not so attractive? Humans have such a hard time giving God their very best. I believe that is why God calls young ladies who give their hearts to Him….Handmaidens. They are easier to use for the good of Humanity and the Kingdom. They didn’t wait to hear a bad report or to gain weight and lose their forms to serve God.

Jacob seems to have a problem with trying to squeeze blessings into his life. On a negative tip, he had gull, nerve and boldness and knew that blessing was better than living under any curse. On a negative tip, the man manipulated his way into being blessed. Is there something that we are missing here? Can you manipulate your way into being blessed? When it comes to satan, the accuser of the brethren, you have to manipulate your way into being blessed. Sometimes you have to manipulate yourself into being blessed. You must show satan and your soul that you are too blessed to be stressed or he/it will step all over you and manipulate you. The dog wags the tail, the tail doesn’t wag the dog. You were in Heaven with God before you even came to Earth and were ‘placed’ in the body that you are in. You are not a body with a spirit, you are a spirit with a body. Amen? Our spirits don’t sin…our souls sin. That’s why satan doesn’t want your spirit, he wants your soul. Your soul has free-will. he wants you to serve him not God. You can serve God and go to the new Heaven and Earth and New City, or serve satan and go to Hell.
God sent an angel to Jacob in Genesis 32. God had to intervene because Esau was upset and wanted to kill his baby brother. God keeps us safe even when we may deserve trouble. It sure sounds like Grace and Mercy to me. Grace = receiving what you don’t deserve. Mercy = not receiving what you do deserve. Esau was on his way. Jacob had to manipulate the situation again to keep from getting killed so he carefully made the decision to send his brother a huge gift in order to make peace. All throughout the bible we see where gift-giving soothes the soul. It is a wonderful habit to give gifts. Adopt it. Sharing God’s gifts with others is an awesome blessing to both the giver and the receiver. God loves sharing….just ask Jesus.
Jacob wrestled with this angel and got his blessing just as the man by the pool of Bethesda “wrestled” by crying out to Jesus and letting Jesus know that he needed healed. John 5:5  Sometimes you just have to cry out. Cry aloud to Jesus. Be bold, be strong for the Lord your God is with you. When you see God in various ways of your life, tell Him and reassure your own soul, I will NOT let you go!”
Have a blessed day,

I was watching a very good preacher on tv who said something that I thought was awesome, (and its the Word).

He said “dishonoring others brings dishonor to you”. Then he went on to say how Ham laughed at his Father Noah while Noah was in a helpless stage.

We have to be careful that we do not inwardly dishonor people thinking that they do not have the discernment to know better. What you give to others comes back to you.

(Have a great day!)
