May 2012 Dear Friend, Despite the fact that the Lemba Tribe of Zimbabwe observe many Jewish customs—keeping the Sabbath, circumcising baby boys, putting a Star of David on tombstones, following the Torah’s dietary restrictions, and more—most doubted the validity of their Jewish descent. Then genetic testing changed everything. In 1999 geneticists from the U.S., UK, and Israel found the Cohen haplotype marker, indicating the Lemba were descended from the Levitical priests of the Jewish Temple and Aaron, Moses’ brother! There is no longer any doubt that these are indeed members of the House of Israel. What’s even more interesting is the fact that these same precious people came to us while we were on a medical clinic outreach in Ethiopia. The elders of the Lemba tribe implored us to come and help them as well. And so now, in just a few days, we will be leaving for Zimbabwe on a medical outreach that will bring free healthcare and the Good News that Yeshua, the Messiah, has already come and that He loves them and offers them salvation. I couldn’t help but think of the words of the Apostle Paul: “The Lord’s message rang out from you . . . your faith in God has become known everywhere” (1 Thessalonians 1:8). It is because you cared enough to make an investment in the lives of the impoverished and forgotten Jews of Ethiopia that we have this new open door today. The Lemba tribe is much larger than most had previously thought—there are literally tens of thousands of people needing our help! This outreach could be one of the biggest and most attended clinics we have ever held, but unfortunately we are far short of where we should be financially . . . and we only have a few days before our medical outreach begins. The poverty rate among these people living in remote mountainous areas is staggering. Most have never received any medical care. Even in the few places where care is available, they simply cannot afford to pay for it. We never want to turn anyone away because of a lack of resources; therefore, I need your assistance.
